Children in The Nest have been finding out what it is like to live on the Isle of Muck which is a Hebridean island off the West Coast of Scotland. Mrs River’s niece lives there and is a Teaching Assistant at the island’s school.
On Thursday 23rd February 2012 we experienced a live link, via Skype, with children who go to The Isle of Muck Primary School. It was awesome! We could see them on the computer screen and we were able to ask them all sorts of questions which we had prepared ... and they had some for us too!
In some ways they are very like us. The boys like to play football, they have the same lessons, use computers and wear a school uniform just like us. BUT ... their school only has eight children and one teacher! They keep pet sheep, cows and pigs and only have electricity for half of the day! There are only fifteen houses on the island and one shop. Everything they need and want, including any letters and parcels, has to arrive by boat from the mainland and, if the weather is bad, the boat cannot sail!
We have sent them a parcel so we are keeping our fingers crossed for good weather!
