This week, we have been making Viking longhouses in DT. We have made a diary of the things that we have done to make the houses. First we sawed lots of sizes of wood to make the frame and the roof. We stuck them together with a glue gun and covered the sides with lollipop leaving a space for the door. Then we cut two cardboard rectangles for the roof and covered it in artstraws with lots of PVA glue. As a whole class we discussed the best way of closing the apex of the roof. We decided to use the glue gun to fill it in with straws. Most of us painted our houses brown and green but one was painted brown and yellow. Our teams all worked very collaboratively together to make our houses. We were all pleased with how well they turned out.
So that we could tell whose group the house belonged to, we designed and coloured an emblem which represented something that related to the Vikings e.g.strength.
Zach - 'I really enjoyed the construction of the houses but I found the glueing of the frame difficult as sometimes I used two much glue.'
Eve - ' I enjoyed designing and painting the most because I like doing creative things.'
