On the afternoon of Tuesday 10th September 2013, Year 2 visited Paignton Fire Station as a hook for the beginning of their learning about The Great Fire of London.
The excitement began as soon as they entered the Fire Station when the alarm sounded and the children were able to watch as Blue Watch got ready to attend the scene of a real fire in Paignton.
During the afternoon, the children had a look around the fire engine, learning about all the equipment that is carried and the important jobs that it does. They also had great delight watching first Cerys, then Mr Bryant dress in fire fighter gear.
To finish the afternoon off the children all had an opportunity to squirt the fire hose to try and knock a cone over, however most were happier to try and make the biggest. highest spray in the sky.
A very enjoyable time was had by all and more importantly they have all learned about how the modern fire service operates today.
